Pretreatment FAQ
What is Significant Non-Compliance (SNC)?
SNC is an EPA designation for serious permit violations — typically exceedances of limits by 40%+ (TRC) or any violation of a compliance schedule milestone. SmartComply evaluates SNC criteria automatically based on your configured rules.
How are exceedances detected?
When sample results are entered, the system compares each parameter against the IU's permit limits. Any value exceeding a limit is flagged immediately and factored into SNC evaluation.
Can industrial users submit their own monitoring data?
Yes. IU contacts with portal access can log in and submit self-monitoring results. Submissions are validated against permit limits and appear with a "Portal" badge.
How do I set up monitoring schedules?
On each IU permit, configure monitoring points, parameters, frequency, and sample type. SmartComply tracks upcoming and overdue monitoring events automatically.
What reports does the Pretreatment module generate?
The module supports semi-annual and annual EPA pretreatment reports, including SNC summaries, IU compliance status, and enforcement action logs. Navigate to Reports → Pretreatment to generate.
How do I handle permit renewals?
When a permit nears expiration, the system generates a renewal reminder. Create a new permit version from the existing record to carry forward limits and monitoring schedules.
